I’m kind of an “old car nut.” While browsing the internet recently, looking at some antique cars, I came across one for sale. Except it wasn’t a “real” car; it was a reproduction of an antique car. But it was still pretty cool.
The car was a replica of a Curved Dash Oldsmobile (CDO) from the early 1900s. It was not homemade, but was manufactured by a company that specialized in these cars.
I considered buying the car, but it was in pretty rough shape, and very overpriced for its condition. But I couldn’t get the image of that car out of my head.
Searching a little deeper on the internet, I discovered that there were a lot of homemade CDOs out there. There were even construction plans available! I decided right then and there that — drumroll, please — I would build myself a Curved Dash Olds!
This site will document my efforts building a CDO. Hopefully, you will find it entertaining and informative, and maybe even a little helpful should you decide to build your own CDO (or similar reproduction).
Keep in mind that this project is not “the most important thing in the world”™ to me. I do have a regular life, after all. Plus I live in a cold climate (the upper Midwest) with an unheated garage. So don’t expect daily updates. Probably not even weekly. Maybe not even monthly. Hopefully the project will be completed within my lifetime…
